* White smoke finally emerged from the top of the Capitol yesterday. Republicans have a new House Speaker!
* From what I’ve seen, read and heard, Speaker Mike Johnson is someone who conservatives will be very happy with. Time to get back to work.
* I spoke to a packed house at the Mt. Rose Republican Women’s dinner in Reno last night.
* This is a great group of folks who have their heads screwed on right. They understand that elections are all about WINNING.
* I shared some thoughts gleaned from the 9-day Campaign Leadership College in DC I just returned from, then took some GREAT questions during the Q&A - including how GOP candidates should deal with the abortion issue this election cycle.
* I hadn’t intended to discuss the Nevada GOP’s brain-dead decision to hold a competing presidential “caucus” two days after the official presidential primary in February, but someone asked…so I replied.
* Nevada Republican National Committeeman Jim DeGraffenreid was in the audience and asked for “equal time.” He came to the front of the room to defend the indefensible.
* It didn’t go well for him.
* I won’t belabor the point since the dumb decision has already been made. But I will say this…
* In that room were some of the most active and informed Republicans in the state. And even some of THEM were confused about why the party is doing something this dumb.
* Imagine how the average Republican voter feels.
* And imagine the sound and fury that’s going to erupt in January when those less-involved GOP voters start receiving their mail-in ballots and discover that Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis’ names aren’t on them.
* This is a fuster-cluck of metaphysical proportions just waiting to happen.
* But the highlight of my evening was meeting a wonderful 17-year-old young lady named Joy. She’s still in high school but has already completed much of her college classwork.
* The future is bright knowing our side has “Joys” in our world. She’d already be a better Republican National Committeewoman than the joke the Nevada GOP has in the position right now.
* Onward…
* Gov. Joe Lombardo has thrown his early support behind another candidate: April Arndt for Assembly District 21 (Clark).
* AD21 is currently being misrepresented by Democrat incumbent Elaine Marzola, who won the seat last year by fewer than 1,300 votes. This is a solid “flip” opportunity for Republicans.

* OK, heading to the airport for a short flight back to the barn. Have a great day.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves is charging Jamaal Bowman only with a misdemeanor for pulling a false fire alarm – not his January 6 favorite of ‘obstruction of an official proceeding,’ a felony.
“Those felony sentences are, of course, outrageously reserved for January 6th protesters who never entered the Capitol building. We suspect that Bowman will get a slap on the wrist given the state of our justice system.
“We got a good laugh out of Bowman’s latest defense, which is that he had a ‘brain freeze.’ Seems to us, that these Democrats (and many Republicans too) have a brain freeze every time they vote on the House floor.”
