* The NHL (National Hockey League) has banned the use of rainbow-colored stick tape that was all the rage on “Pride Nights” at hockey games. And the alphabet soup LGBTQ+ gang is none too pleased.
* But it’s the right call. People don’t tune into sports for commentary on controversial social issues. Indeed, many of us tune into sports for the expressed purpose of getting away from political and “woke” nonsense.
* If you can’t enjoy a hockey game unless the players’ sticks are wrapped in gay pride tape, you’re not really a hockey fan and should just shut up and leave the rest of us alone.
* More on the Republican House Speaker brouhaha…
* The race to replace House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has come down to Rep. Steve Scalise and Rep. Jim Jordan. And after losing a GOP caucus vote this morning, 113 to 99, Jordan’s thrown his support to Scalise.
* But this isn’t a done deal yet, not by a long shot.
* It takes 217 votes to elect a new speaker, and even if every one of Jordan’s supporters join him in backing Scalise, that still only totals 212. So Scalise needs to corral at least 5 more votes from those who didn’t vote for either in the caucus balloting.
* And at least one has already said no-go. Rep. Chip Roy tweeted this afternoon…
“I will not be voting for @SteveScalise on the floor this afternoon. The House GOP should NOT have called a vote at 300pm after finishing the vote at 130pm in Conference. That is unacceptable & purposeful.”
* Added Rep. Tom Massie…
“Surprises are for little kids at birthday parties, not Congress. So, I let Scalise know in person that he doesn’t have my vote on the floor, because he has not articulated a viable plan for avoiding an omnibus.”
* And Marjorie Taylor Green…
“I just voted for Jim Jordan for Speaker on a private ballot in conference, and I will be voting for Jim Jordan on the House floor.”
* Ugh.
* Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was caught telling a bunch of whoppers during his campaign last year. When the allegations came to light and were confirmed, some of us called for him to resign from Congress immediately or be kicked out.
* He didn’t. And now he’s been indicted for “stealing the identities of donors to his campaign and then using their credit cards to ring up tens of thousands of dollars in unauthorized charges.”
* Republicans screwed up big time by not nipping this in the bud eight months ago.
* Joe Biden said today that the United States’ commitment to Israel’s “security and the safety of the Jewish people” is “unshakable.”
* Biden also says the economy is in great shape and the southern border is secure. So watch your back, Israel.
* Now let’s give a little credit where due…
* The Democrat Socialists of America (DSA) – and their Las Vegas and Nevada branches – have come out in defense of the indefensible slaughter of innocent civilians by Hamas this past weekend.
* Until earlier this year, the DSA kooks controlled the Nevada Democrat Party. And while in power, it universally endorsed every Democrat on the ballot last November. Yet none of those Democrats have denounced the DSA’s support for Hamas.
* Until today when Democrat U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen released a statement slamming the organization…
“It’s outrageous that some extremists and activists like the Democratic Socialists of America are using this attack as an opportunity to oppose lifesaving security assistance in Israel’s darkest hour. Even worse, there are voices celebrating Hamas’s vile terrorism, from celebrations in the streets to statements attempting to justify the murder of innocent civilians. … I will stand up to anyone, including extremists in my own party, to see that American support for Israel remains unwavering.”
* Yes, Rosen is facing an expected close race for re-election next year. And yes, she’s Jewish, so this is especially personal to her.
* But she’s taken the only acceptable position on this issue as it relates to the DSA and has now said so publicly. The rest of the state’s Democrats are supporting the Hamas violence with their silence.
* Republican presidential candidate and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum has filed to run in the Nevada GOP’s caucus on February 8, joining Trump and Vivek in blowing off the state-run primary two days earlier.
* If you believe the Nevada GOP has its caucus “fixed” for Trump, as I do, then the former president is going to run away with the caucus no matter who participates.
* If that’s the case – and it probably is – I hope DeSantis blows off the caucus and files for the primary instead. If you’re playing against a stacked deck, go sit at another table.
* While DeSantis wouldn’t get any of Nevada’s tiny, insignificant number of delegates to the National Convention, he’d get national “bragging rights” for having won the Nevada primary for two days before the caucus is even held.
* And since it’s almost certain there will be a much bigger participation in the primary than the caucus, he’ll be able to say he’s the “people’s choice” in Nevada going into South Carolina and Super Tuesday.
* Democrat State Sen. Dallas Harris – a race-hustler and about as far left as you can get – announced yesterday that she’s running for re-election next year.
* Her seat is probably the #1, if not the ONLY Senate seat Republicans have a chance to flip next year. All they need is an A-list candidate.
* There’s one waiting in the wings, deciding whether to make the run. Can’t release her name yet, but if she pulls the trigger, it could be a game-changer.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“Any Jewish American who votes Democrat after hearing Democrat Congressmembers, BLM, Harvard, leftist celebrities & media SYMPATHIZE with Hamas massacring Jews is out of their fricking mind.” – Liz Wheeler
