* Guys and gals, I’m making an assumption about you. If you’re a member of the Inner Circle and receiving Muth’s Truths PLUS+, I’m assuming you’re the cream of the crop and the exact opposite of the “low-information voter.”
* As such, I’m keeping some of my writing less specific than I do in the regular Muth’s Truths. For example (see next item), I’m assuming you know who Joe Lombardo is without writing that he’s “Republican Governor-elect Joe Lombardo.”
* But if there’s ever a question about any of my “Reader’s Digest” shorthands, just reach out to me at chuck@citizenoutreach.com for a fuller explanation. Now on with the show…
* So why did Joe Lombardo win and Adam Laxalt lose? One reason is that Lombardo simply ran a better strategic campaign, including running a “purple” messaging campaign in a “purple” state. But another is the fact that Sisolak’s high-profile shutdown during COVID jacked up his negatives through the roof while Catherine Cortez Masto has been harder to find than Waldo.
* Speaking of Gov.-elect Lombardo, he announced on Thursday that his campaign’s communications director, Elizabeth Ray, has been hired for the same role in his administration. Good choice. Ray did yeoman’s work fending off Dem and media attacks during the campaign. Congrats E!!
* A list of Republican National Committee members signing a letter endorsing RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel for re-election came out shortly after the general election but before the Georgia Senate special election debacle and before California National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon announced her candidacy for the job.
* So even though all three Nevada committee members – Michael McDonald, Michele Fiore and Jim DeGraffenreid – signed the letter, some think one of more are “persuadable.” I have my doubts, but hope they’re right. Real change requires real change – just like in Nevada.
* When it comes to protecting and defending small businesses, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce has sucked for years. And it won’t get any better anytime soon. The group just swore in its new president: Paul Anderson – one of the architects of the largest tax hike in Nevada history, including a new business income tax, in 2015 when he served as the Republican Assembly Minority Leader.
* I know Republicans love to hate Joe Gloria, the Clark County Registrar of Voters, who is retiring next month. And there are certainly issues of concern and areas ripe for criticism that still need to be addressed. But the ease of voting isn’t one of them.
* In a Las Vegas Review-Journal story by Jessica Hill on Thursday, Gloria pointed out: “If you don’t vote in Clark County, you didn’t want to vote, because there’s plenty of opportunity, and now with the mail (ballots), even more so. You can’t tell me that if you look at the early voting schedule for in-person, that there wasn’t one opportunity in that 14-day period where you could have taken an hour to get in line and go ahead and vote.”
