Muth's Truths PLUS+

03/23/2023

* Yesterday, First Lady Jill Biden called on men to step up and fight for women’s rights.

* Wait. I thought women didn’t need men to come to their defense? Isn’t that what the fight against “toxic masculinity” is all about?

* Ms. Biden – and don’t hold your breath waiting for me to refer to her as “Doctor” – said, “We need more men to hold each other accountable when women are being hurt or left behind.”

* You mean like how her husband left all those hurt women in Afghanistan behind when he tucked tail and ran, leaving them in the clutches of the Taliban? Get a grip, lady.

* Just to recap some of the more asinine bills introduced so far this session of the Nevada Legislature, we have: Putting polling locations inside prisons, paying prisoners a minimum wage, allowing ex-cons to serve on juries, giving ex-cons free driver’s licenses, allowing illegal aliens to get food-selling licenses, and allowing vagrants free reign on our public sidewalks.

* Seen any “tent cities” in your neighborhood? If not, don’t worry – you will.

* On the other hand, Republican Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant has introduced a bill to protect home-based businesses – such as folks selling Amway, Avon, Herbalife, Mary Kay, Tupperware, etc. – from local government harassment.

* Imagine that. Fighting for productive members of our community rather than those who break our laws. What a radical idea.

* Meanwhile, the mental midgets over at the far-left Battle Born Progress attacked police officers for the Clark County school district for allegedly not showing enough “respect” for what they referred to as “our CHILDREN.”

* Hang on while I whip out my World’s Smallest Violin.

* As just one example, one of their “children” last year sexually assaulted & choked unconscious a teacher in her classroom, telling her to "just die already, hurry up.” I hope those BBP goofballs get jock itch tonight.

* Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo has introduced a bill making it easier to expel unruly, sometimes violent, students. He wants to repeal a bill signed by former Democrat Gov. Steve Sisolak that protects students who disrupt classrooms.

* A conservative columnist immediately criticized Lombardo’s bill, suggesting it would hurt charter schools. However, the state Charter School Association released a statement in full support.

* Speaking of Gov. Lombardo, he also this week slammed Joe Biden for taking away some 500,000 acres of Nevada land and designating it as a protected “national monument.” The feds already own some 80% of Nevada’s land. They should be giving more of it back to Nevada, not taking more away.

* AJR6 has been introduced. It would impose the National Popular Vote Compact on Nevada and undo the electoral vote system we’ve used since the nation’s founding. Hard no.

* From the Department of People in Glass Houses: Former President Trump continues to criticize Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for his handling of COVID. DeSantis is starting to fight back.

* DeSantis pointed out this week that Trump awarded a “Presidential Commendation” to Tony Fauci in January 2021. It’s hard to imagine a more hated figure on the right when it comes to how COVID was handled than Fauci.

* Stephen Moore of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity wrote today…

“We’ve said many times that Trump’s greatest mistake during Covid was not immediately firing Tony Fauci – who we now know was dead wrong in almost every policy recommendation he made. … Trump would likely still be president if he had.”

* No matter what you say about how DeSantis handled COVID in Florida, it will always be “trumped” by the fact that Trump failed to get rid of Fauci.

* Speaking of DeSantis, a new PAC supporting his expected entry into the 2024 presidential contest has reportedly hired the national consulting firm Axiom Strategies. The PAC is led by former Virginia Gov. Ken Cuccinelli.

* In Nevada, Axiom is run by longtime political consultant Robert Uithoven, who ran Adam Laxalt’s U.S. Senate campaign last year, among others. And Laxalt is BFF’s with DeSantis, dating back to their days as roommates in college.

* The fight for Nevada between Trump and DeSantis next year is gonna be lit.

* Update, courtesy of Jessica Hill of the Las Vegas Review Journal, on Tuesday’s cancellation of the scheduled meeting of the Clark County GOP Central Committee at Stoney’s Rockin’ Country, which has been donating the space for free…

* The last two meetings have been chaotic, to say the least, and brought unwanted negative attention to the venue. That includes a “leaked video of former Las Vegas Councilwoman Michele Fiore ranting about former state party Chair Amy Tarkanian.”

* As well as a similar rant by Nevada Republican National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah.

* From what I’ve heard, Stoney’s sought assurances from county party Chairman Jesse Law that serious steps would be taken to eliminate such brouhahas before being allowed to hold events there in the future; assurances they did not receive.

* Law is up for re-election this summer and is being challenged by Dave Crete, a former county chair in Maricopa County, Arizona. The cancelled meeting has caused even more dissension in the ranks, since new members had to attend the meeting in order to vote in July.

* What a circus.

* The Sweet 16 kicks off today, including two games in Las Vegas. As such, I’ll be unavailable as of 3:29 pm this afternoon.

* My picks: Michigan State, Tennessee, San Diego State, Princeton, Houston, Texas, Connecticut and UCLA. But considering my record so far this year, I wouldn’t go betting on them.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“I would have fired somebody like Fauci. I think he got way too big for his britches, and I think he did a lot of damage.” – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis
