* For years now, Democrats have played the role of Wiley Coyote to Donald Trump’s Road Runner. And you can bet the ex-prez will again escape the clutches of New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment over…well, nothing.
* The only thing the D’s will get – and really the only thing they want – is a mug shot to use in the presidential election next year. But you can also bet that Trump – a marketing ninja – will turn the tables and use the photo to actually HELP his campaign.
* What the asinine indictment has actually done is move “soft” Trump supporters suffering from mild Trump Fatigue back solidly into Trump’s camp. At least for now.
* FOX News reported this week that “Cuban migrants (flew a) hang glider into Florida airport only to be arrested after safe landing.” They should have just walked across the border in Texas like everybody else.
* Republicans in the House proposed an amendment to block the federal government from banning gas stoves. Nevada’s Democrat socialists - Reps. Susie Lee, Steven Horsford and Dina Titus - all voted against the amendment.
* Apparently, it really frosts the flakes of the transgendered community when folks use the acronym “LGB” (lesbian, gay, bi) without adding “TQ+” (trans, queer, who knows). So please don’t use LGB without the TQ+ or you might hurt the tender sensibilities of the trannies. And we wouldn’t want to do that, would we?
* In 2019, Democrats in Carson City passed an illegal tax hike on car registrations. The courts struck it down. And now the DMV has to return the money. But rather than issue the refunds automatically – like automatically mailing ballots to everyone – you have to request it.
* It’s not a big amount. However, as the Las Vegas Review-Journal editorialized this week…
“The amount may be small, but there is a principle involved. The more money the state gets to keep, the more legislative Democrats will be rewarded for their cynical chicanery.”
* To request your refund, email DMVTech-FeeSupport@dmv.nv.gov or call (775) 684-4611.
* Here we go again. Some Republican legislators in Carson City – usually freshmen – are co-sponsoring bad or meaningless Democrat bills in the hope of getting their own bills – often also bad or meaningless – passed.
* The strategy rarely works and only gives “bipartisan” cover to Democrats. If a bill is solidly conservative, it will die a quiet and painless death. One day, Republicans will wake up and smell the coffee. Or not.
* Democrats have introduced a bill (SB262) saying you don’t have to be a citizen to serve as a “a member of a citizens’ advisory council.” Makes perfect sense…if you’re a left-wing Democrat. Fortunately, no Republican has been dumb enough to co-sponsor this asinine bill.
* Democrats have also submitted a bill (SB419) that would give Medicaid benefits to illegal aliens. Ex-Gov. Brian Sandoval’s irresponsible expansion of Medicaid years ago already has the program bleeding red ink. This would make a bad situation even worse. Fortunately, no Republican has been dumb enough to co-sponsor this asinine bill.
* The Democrats’ premier race-hustler, Sen. Pat Spearman, has introduced a bill (SB227) that would “make it a crime to draw, paint, etch or display a ‘hate symbol’ in a public place.” Fortunately, no Republican has been dumb enough to co-sponsor this asinine bill.
* Republican State Sen. Jeff Stone, who had family members killed in the Holocaust, delivered the perfect response during a hearing on the bill this week…
“Do I hate what the swastika represents today? 100%, yes. But free speech must be protected, even if we don’t like the message. Where hate speech is coupled with violence, that is the exception."
* Spearman has also introduced another bill (SB426) that “would limit annual rent increases to not exceed the annual "cost-of-living increase [calculated and] published by the Housing Division."
* Where's the bill to limit the Legislature's budget increases to the annual cost-of-living increase?
* Assembly Republican Brian Hibbetts has introduced a bill (AB232) “that would cap Nevada taxes on premium cigars so that Nevada's cigar retailers and shops can charge lower, competitive prices and stay in business here in Nevada.”
* Great. Now do food, clothing, beer, wine, toilet paper, laundry detergent, trash bags, soap, shampoo, makeup, disposable diapers, etc.
* Oh, and weed. Don't forget the weed!
* The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that “More than one-third of Clark County School District students were deemed to be chronically absent during fall semester.” Do taxpayers get a refund?
* If a lottery for Nevada ever makes it to the ballot, there’s good chance the public will approve it. However, the proposal in Carson City this session, being championed by Democrat Assemblyman Cameron Miller, would earmark the revenue for “youth mental health programs.”
* With liberals, it’s cynically always “for the children.”
* And while many Nevada Republicans surely favor repealing the constitutional prohibition on lotteries, earmarking the money for what will be perceived as a liberal honey-pot will surely cause many to vote against it for that reason alone – just as the lefties would vote against it if the revenue was earmarked for school vouchers.
* As proposed, don’t expect this going anywhere fast.
* Lastly, liberal blubber-blogger Jon Ralston hates Reno conservative activist Robert Beadles. Badge of honor.
