Muth's Truths PLUS+

12/11/2023

* As noted in the last MTP+, indicted Clark County GOP Chairman Jesse Law is trying to lose Republicans a seat in the State Assembly by running for the open seat of Republican Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama, who is now running for Congress.

* In trying to justify his candidacy, Law cited what he claims was “record-high Republican turnout from the 2022 midterms in Clark County.”

* Is it true? Let’s look at the actual numbers.

* Republican turnout in Clark County last year was 66.91%. Republican turnout in 2018, the last non-presidential election cycle, was 67.61%. A 2022 reduction of about one half of one percent.

* If that was a “record high,” it still ain’t sayin’ much.

* That still means a THIRD of active registered Republicans stayed home – many because Law and other GOP leaders have convinced large numbers of Republican voters that (unsubstantiated) “voter fraud” has stolen elections and their vote won’t count.

* Jesse should stick with the job he was elected to do – even if he’s not doing it very well – rather than risk having a critical “red” Assembly seat flip “blue.” He’s the wrong candidate running for the wrong seat at the wrong time.

* I’m not the only conservative in Nevada who thinks the Nevada GOP’s planned “caucus” in February is a PR disaster waiting to happen.

* On Sunday, conservative columnist Victor Joecks (click here) and conservative columnist Michael Schaus (click here) both published pieces excoriating the party for its Keystone Kops management and judgment.

* Joecks: “Trump and the Nevada GOP should have prioritized using the state’s early voting status to generate massive interest in the primary. … They could have used the primary to test out and refine the RNC’s push to bank Republican votes early, too.”

* Schaus: “In their zeal to remold the state GOP into an extension of (Trump’s) cult of personality, these leaders haven’t been content with merely excommunicating ‘RINOs (Republican in Name Only)’ and anti-Trump voices - they’ve even gone so far as to disenfranchise their own voters.”

* On February 6, the national media is going to report that Nikki Haley “won Nevada.” Two days later, the same media will be reporting that Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis “won Nevada.”

* Nah, no chance for confusion among voters there.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“The law making UNLV a gun-free zone didn’t stop the shooter. Good guys with guns did. New gun laws won’t stop someone intent on committing murder. They’ll only make it more likely his intended victims are unarmed and defenseless.” – Columnist Victor Joecks
