* Clark County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Law – one of the “Indicted Six” - has announced he’s running for the Assembly District 2 seat being vacated by Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama, who’s running for Congress next year.

* According to the Las Vegas Sun…

“In a news release announcing his candidacy, Law touted his ability to energize voters and cited record-high Republican turnout from the 2022 midterms in Clark County. He said that turnout directly contributed to first-term Gov. Joe Lombardo’s win last year.”

* Jesse also took credit for the sun rising this morning.

* No matter how hard these folks try to spin what happened in 2022, the fact remains that Republicans lost a U.S. Senate seat by fewer than 8,000 votes in an election in which 175,000+ active Republican voters stayed home and did not vote.

* And Gov. Lombardo won DESPITE the failures of the GOP, not because of them.

* Here’s a list of what Hunter Biden spent money on, according to this week’s indictment, instead of paying his taxes…

  • $1.64 million in ATM withdrawals
  • $683,212 for “payments to various women”
  • $397,530 for clothing and accessories
  • $309,277 on tuition/education
  • $237,496 on health, beauty and pharmacy products
  • $236,634 on miscellaneous retail purchases
  • $214,923 on food, groceries and restaurants
  • $188,960 on adult entertainment
  • $71,869 on drug and alcohol rehab
  • $42,856 on home improvement
  • $24,445 on entertainment
  • $23,567 on sports and recreation

* Now imagine the stories if this was a Trump kid instead of Biden’s kid.

* Speaking of which, some good news for Trump fans…

* If the GOP presidential primary election were held today, I’d still vote for Ron DeSantis, believing he’s the most proven conservative who can win. But I’m not overlooking the fact that Trump has improved his standing considerably in a rematch against Biden.

* Some excerpts from a FOX News column today…

“President Biden's approval rating has hit an all-time low, and he trails former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head 2024 matchup.

Trump leads Biden 47% to 43% in a hypothetical ballot between only those two candidates and trails 37% to 31% in a hypothetical ballot with five independent candidates, according to the results of a Wall Street Journal poll released Saturday.

The president's sagging numbers against Trump also come as voters gave Biden low approval marks, including only 23% of respondents saying Biden's policies have helped them personally, compared to 53% who say they have been hurt by the president's policies.

Biden's overall job performance garnered only 37% approval from survey respondents as well, a new low for the WSJ poll. Meanwhile, 61% of respondents see his overall image in an unfavorable light, which is a record high for the poll.

(Democrat pollster Michael) Bocian…said Biden might be struggling with groups that have traditionally sided with Democrats, including young Latino and Black Americans.

Biden once held the upper hand over Trump in 2024 rematch surveys, but Trump began enjoying an advantage over his successor in the White House in most polls starting in October.

The new Wall Street Journal survey is also the latest to indicate that Biden remains well underwater in the most important metric of his presidency – his approval rating.

The president’s numbers started sagging in August 2021 in the wake of Biden's much criticized handling of the turbulent U.S. exit from Afghanistan and following a surge in COVID-19 cases that summer among mainly unvaccinated people.

The plunge in the president’s approval was also fueled by soaring inflation - which started spiking in the summer of 2021 and remains to date a major pocketbook concern with Americans - and the surge of migrants trying to cross into the U.S. along the southern border with Mexico.

* The reality continues that this is a two-candidate race for the GOP presidential nomination: Trump and DeSantis.

* Trump and his supporters aren’t the enemy. Nor are DeSantis and his supporters. The enemy is Biden and his supporters (see “Famous Last Words” below). Keep your eyes on the prize.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Our friends at the Commonwealth Foundation found that the four largest government unions, the National Education Association (NEA), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), and Service Employees International Union (SEIU), spent $708.8 million on politics during the 2021–22 election cycle, with 95.7 percent going to Democrats.” – Stephen Moore, Committee to Unleash Prosperity
