Muth's Truths PLUS+

* In a fundraising email pitch yesterday, Nevada Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sam Brown wrote…

“You’ve heard about me and my campaign. Now let me introduce you to my opponent Jacky Rosen.”

* This is the same mistake Brown made in the primary for U.S. Senate last year. Rosen is NOT his opponent. Not yet anyway.

* First, he has to get past Jim Marchant in the GOP primary. If Brown fails to beat Marchant in the primary – like how he lost to Adam Laxalt in last year’s primary – he’ll never get the chance to face off against Rosen in the general.

* Forget “duty first.” It’s Marchant first.

* Some second quarter FEC numbers are out. And it’s not pretty for some Nevada candidates.

* Marchant reports raising just $109,562. That’s enough to give his consultants a payday, but not much else.

* First-time Republican U.S. Senate candidate Stephanie Phillips reports raising just $27,144. She should be running for a state legislative seat instead.

* Republican Drew Johnson – running for Nevada’s 3rd congressional district – reportedly raised an embarrassing $20,787, compared to fellow GOP candidate Elizabeth Helgelien who’s raised $99,022.

* For months before jumping into the race, Johnson touted his fundraising prowess and predicted it would clear the field for him. Ah, the best-laid plans. Banks don’t deposit “likes,” “follows” and “attaboys.”

* I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Drew should NOT be running for Congress this cycle. He should be running against Democrat Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager.

* Yeager, in looking at last year’s election results, is definitely vulnerable to a solid GOP opponent. And running for the Assembly would be FAR less expensive than running for Congress.

* Over in CD1 – currently being misrepresented by Democrat Dina Titus – Republican challenger Fleming Larsen reports raising $116,886 while also lending his campaign $650,000. Fellow GOP challenger Mark Robertson reports raising $20,940.

* The Douglas County school board has been under assault by social justice warriors and the ACLU over the notion that boys “identifying” as girls shouldn’t be showering and changing in girls’ locker rooms and using girls’ bathrooms.

* Apparently the district doesn’t have a “wartime consigliere” representing it and wants new legal representation. As such, it’s considering dropping its current legal beagles and hiring Reno attorney Joey Gilbert.

* Gilbert is no shrinking violet. He’s a fighter…literally. And that’s exactly what the school board needs right now. Decision could be made tomorrow.

* The Las Vegas Valley Water District has jacked up fees on some 60,000 homeowners for “excessive use” this year, totaling almost $13 million. The district claims the penalties have resulted in 11% less water usage overall.

* If you get less of something by taxing it, shouldn’t we be taxing welfare benefits?

* The election for a new chairman of the Clark County Republican Party will be held tonight at the Ahern Hotel in Las Vegas. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Meeting and election scheduled for around 7:00 pm – if all goes as planned, which is never a given for this group.

* Chairman Jesse Law is facing off against Jill Douglass, president of the Battle Born Republican Women.

* Law, the incumbent, is favored to win. But Douglass has mounted a spirited challenge and has been aided by two other candidates dropping out and throwing their support behind her. An upset could be in the making.

* But what circus would be complete without a clown, right? So Eddie “Insert Silly Nickname Here” Hamilton has also thrown his hat in the ring and will be on the ballot tonight.

* I’m setting the over/under on how many votes Hamilton gets at seven. Eight if he votes for himself.
