* I’m no Chris Christie fan, but this attack by Steven Cheung, Trump's campaign spokesman, over Christie’s call for Trump to join the upcoming candidate debates isn’t exactly culled from the pages of How to Win Friends and Influence People…
“Chris Christie lives in a perpetual fantasy land where he thinks he can be president. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie wrapped in incoherent psychotic rage and he needs to get some professional help."
* Physician, heal thyself.
* Sam Brown – running for U.S. Senate in Nevada again this cycle after losing in the GOP primary to Adam Laxalt last year – is by FAR a stronger candidate to up against Democrat incumbent Sen. “Wacky” Jacky Rosen than Republican Jim Marchant.
* But when asked by Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jessica Hill in an interview this week “how he differs from Marchant, Brown did not answer and instead took aim at Rosen.”
* That’s the same mistake he made last time in going after incumbent Democrat Sen. Cortez-Masto-Reid during the primary instead of focusing on why he’d have been a stronger general election opponent than Laxalt.
* You can’t get to the general if you don’t win the primary.
* Marchant’s consultant, Rory McShane, told the RJ that “Sam Brown has never won a primary and Jim Marchant has never lost a primary.”
* Well, um, yeah. If your objective is to nominate the Republican candidate least likely to win in the general election, yeah, Marchant’s your guy. To recap…
* He lost his re-election bid to hold his state Assembly seat in a swing district in 2018. He then went on to lose his congressional bid in 2020. And followed that up by losing his bid for Secretary of State in 2022.
* At least he’s consistent.
* If Republicans want to lose yet another U.S. Senate race in Nevada, by all means, Marchant and McShane are just the guys to do it.
* That said, Hill also reported that “during the 10-minute interview, Brown danced around some questions, not giving clear answers” – including questions about a nationwide abortion ban and the controversial 2020 presidential election in Nevada.
* This is a big problem for the Brown campaign. Some people who love Sam and supported him in 2020 also say that once you get beyond his compelling war injury story, there’s no there there.
* It’s like having your attention captured by the volcano in front of the Mirage resort only to find a Motel 6 behind it.
* Brown should have seen those two questions coming a mile away and been prepared with well-thought-out responses on the tip of his tongue. If he’s not ready to do that, then he’s not ready for media interviews.
* Isn’t anyone on his campaign prepping him for these sorts of things?
* The Chattah Box – Nevada GOP National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah – twit-tweeted on Saturday…
“Isn’t it amazing how easily the State spends your money on a Presidential Primary that is completely irrelevant to Republican voters?”
* It’s only irrelevant because the Nevada GOP has chosen to select its delegates to the Republican National Convention via a closed “caucus” instead of letting every legally eligible Republican vote in a typical primary election.
* Chattah sued to block the state from conducting a GOP primary election to award convention delegates, as passed by the Nevada Legislature. She lost. As usual.
* The Supreme Court has ruled that state parties have the right to use a caucus instead of a primary, but that doesn’t make it “right” or politically wise.
* Nevada is one of only four states that still chooses its presidential nominee via a caucus rather than a primary. The others are Iowa, North Dakota and Wyoming.
* This decision by the Nevada GOP for 2024 is going to blow up in the party’s face. PR disaster just waiting to happen. You heard it here first.
* And I won’t be shy about saying, “I told you so.”
