Muth's Truths PLUS+

07/05/2023

* Sam Brown has announced that next Monday he’s going to announce…something.

* I think we all know what it is. Sam’s gonna take another crack at winning a U.S. Senate seat in Nevada next year.

* In his announcement announcement, broken by Megan Barth of the Nevada Globe, Brown wrote…

“These last two years I’ve had the honor of traveling around our state and listening to Nevadans one-on-one. Whether at homes, schools, or businesses, they tell me they are deeply concerned with the direction our country is headed.

“While everyday families are struggling with inflation, failing schools, and public safety concerns, D.C. politicians are completely disconnected from the reality that families live every day. Something has to change!

“Nevadans see the damage caused by failed politicians, who serve special interests instead of listening to you and me. Their message to me has been loud and clear: they want someone to stand up for them and lead. It’s time to unite and take back our state.”

* Ugh.

* What has to change is whoever’s writing this lame DC-speak pablum for him.

* “They want someone to stand up for them and lead”?

* “It’s time to unite and take back our state”?

* Name one person at your Independence Day family cookout yesterday who said, “If only we had someone to stand up for us and lead.” Or, “You know what we really need? To unite and take back our state.”

* This kind of lame, consultant-generated language doesn’t excite anyone. Doesn’t motivate anyone to write a check or knock on doors. Instead, it’s guilty of the one Cardinal Sins in politics.

* It’s…BORING.

* I like Sam. Supported him in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate last year. But his messaging and communications strategy was way off. And he didn’t show any real “fire in the belly” or engage aggressively until about six weeks before the election.

* If he thinks messaging like this coming out of the gate is going to scare anyone out of the race, he’s got another think coming.

* And running on the same kind of uninspired “Duty First” (what the hell does that even mean to voters?) campaign messaging that lost the last time will likely deliver the same result this time.

* He needs a new writer or a new consultant…or both.

* In local news, more unwanted drama at the Clark County Republican Party…

* On Saturday, Jessica Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that “Clark County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Law is embroiled in a lawsuit as a member of a company’s board of directors accused of defrauding shareholders and furthering their own self-interests.”

* I’ve since heard from several people involved in the dispute who claim Hill’s report only scratches the surface of the alleged fraud on a federal scale. This is not good. The GOP has a tough time focusing on its core responsibilities as is without any additional distractions.

* However, I’m advised that the details of the lawsuit won’t come out until AFTER the scheduled election for Clark County chair on July 18. Am guessing this will come up in the chairman’s debate next Tuesday being sponsored by the Nevada Republican Club.

* Oh, and there’s a new horse in the race: Johnny Bru. He joins Jill Douglass and Nephi Khaliki as challengers to incumbent Law.

* Bru is a popular conservative podcaster who certainly brings communications skills on social media to the table.

* Douglass run a Republican women’s club, so she brings organizational experience to the table.

* Khaliki runs a gun training organization and brings experience in marketing and putting on events to the table.

* Ought to be an interesting debate. Bring popcorn!

* Is he or isn’t he? That is the question.

* Is former North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee – who ran unsuccessfully in the GOP primary for governor last year after switching parties – seriously looking at running for the House of Representatives in Nevada’s 4th congressional district, currently being misrepresented by Democrat Steve Horsford?

* That’s the word on the street.

* I’ll wrap up with the latest from the Chattah-Box…

* Red State columnist Brittany Sheehan challenged Nevada Republican National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah on Twitter for “suing the R Gov. (Lombardo) over (a) bill passed unanimously” by every GOP state legislator.

* The Chattah-Box responded…

“Let me introduce you to the Patriot Act- passed (almost unanimously) and signed by a Republican President and has been constitutionally challenged over and over until judges struck parts down, it was amended and swaths of it were gutted. Partisan support has zero to do with constitutionality.”

* To which Sheehan aptly replied…

“So your argument as RNC committeewoman is that every Republican legislator in the state acted unconstitutionally? Just wanna be clear on what you’re implying about every Republican we’ve got, while a sitting committeewoman. Also, I guess you guys suck at whipping votes, then.”

* Game, set, match.

* In a separate tweet about the riots in France, the Chattah-Box excitedly wrote, “The world needs to see this!” She was referring to and included a video clip of a high-rise building on fire.

* Alas, Miss Hang ‘em From a Crane ended up with egg on her face (again) when it was revealed that the video actually “shows a recent fire in UAE and has no relation to the 2023 French riots.”

* Oops.

* In a separate tweet, the Chattah-Box commented on recent rioting in Belgium: “Belgium, and yet nobody’s saying anything.” That one included a video clip showing a car fully on fire in the middle of an intersection.

* Yep, you guessed it. Turns out the clip Chattah reposted is from “riots in Amsterdam after Morocco’s victory against Belgium at 2022 Football World Cup.” How embarrassing.

* Ladies and gentlemen, YOUR Nevada Republican National Committeewoman. You should be so proud.
