Muth's Truths Plus

12/22/2022

* As predicted in the last Muth’s TruthsPLUS+, Michele Fiore – newly appointed as Justice of the Peace in Nye County – resigned yesterday as Nevada’s Republican National Committeewoman.

* Sigal Chattah – who just ran unsuccessfully for attorney general this year – has announced her candidacy to replace Fiore. She tweeted yesterday afternoon…

“I am honored to have been asked and agreed to run for Nevada Republican Party National Committeewoman.”

* No indication of who exactly asked her to run. Probably Fiore.

* I *believe* the election will be held at the NV GOP meeting in Ely on January 14.

* Two other candidates are rumored to be mulling a run for the seat: Former Nevada GOP Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian and former Nevada Republican Club President Pauline Lee.

* Tarkanian, while certainly qualified for the position, would have virtually no chance to win the support of the 300-or-so members of the Central Committee after visibly opposing Chattah and
supporting Democrat incumbent A.Ron Ford in this year’s AG race.

* Tarkanian also very publicly opposed Fiore in her campaign for State Treasurer and threw her support behind incumbent Democrat Zach Conine, who ultimately won the seat. LOTS of bad blood between Fiore and Tarkanian.

* The two Democrat endorsements by the former GOP chieftess resulted in Tarkanian being officially censured by the Douglas County GOP and booted off the Central Committee.

* Nevertheless, in a tweet yesterday Tarkanian wrote…

“I'd make a great one that could fundraise like they're supposed to while assisting a chair. After my short time as chair, I raised the most money in the shortest time. I was the youngest
chair in the nation, with four young kids.”

* Lee is well-known and highly-respected for her involvement in grassroots GOP activities; however, Central Committee members tend to be more hard-core activists and are likely to support the brash Chattah.

* Will be interesting to see where the candidates come down on the heated race going on right now for chair of the Republican National Committee featuring current chair Ronna McDaniel,
California Republican National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon and MyPillow’s
Mike Lindell.

* Fiore has previously expressed support for McDaniel. But in response toChattah’s announcement, Dhillon tweeted…

“Great news!! Sigal is a rockstar attorney and will be a great addition to the Republican National Committee!”

* It’ll also be interesting to see if the Central Committee passes a resolution of support for any of the RNC chair candidates, as such a vote would occur less than two weeks before the scheduled RNC vote.

* For the record, grassroots conservatives have been rallying behind Dhillon while the Republican establishment has been trying to save McDaniel’s bacon.

* The incumbent still has the advantage, but don’t write Dhillon off yet. She’s running a very spirited campaign and raising some very important questions on GOP strategy and tactics going into the 2024 election cycle.

* Meanwhile, it was disclosed today that embattled Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald, who had his cell phone seized last June as part of the DOJ investigation into post-2020 election activities, took the 5th 275 times during his deposition earlier this year.

* The Nevada GOP is in a tough spot with all of this. On one hand, everyone knows the DOJ investigation is a Donald Trump witch-hunt. On the other hand, “Trump Fatigue” is settling in among even some of Trump’s die-hard supporters.

* I’m hearing from many Trump supporters saying “Thanks for everything you did, Mr. President, but it’s time to move on and put all these distractions behind us.”

* As for McDonald, he has refused to step aside and let new leadership come into the party ASAP to get the ball rolling for the ’24 elections. He *should* be up for re-election next fall, but some are suggesting a bylaws change last year means he’s not up until 2025.

* Expect that question to be clarified at the January 14 meeting. If it’s 2023, expect challengers to wait until the fall election before announcing their candidacies. If 2025, expect some Central Committee members to mount a recall effort.

* Nevada’s unemployment office (DETR) has been a disaster under Sisolak. But voters fired him last month, and yesterday it was announced that Sisolak’s DETR director is resigning in two
weeks. Elections have consequences…and this is a good one.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“I haven't made a decision (on running for reelection in 2024), finally. And
probably won't do that anytime in the immediate future. I'm convinced that if I
run, I win.” – Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT)

“I think (Romney’s) more likely to run for president than for re-election in the
Senate. … I think you clearly see Massachusetts values in a Utah senator. And I
think that's probably not sustainable, and he can't get re-elected.” – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich
