* Yesterday, Nevada Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo proposed a solution for hundreds of low-income, mostly minority, students who were in danger of losing their Opportunity Scholarship and being forced back into a failing public school after Democrats cut funding for the program in the 2023 session of the Nevada Legislature.
* Lombardo has proposed using a little over $3 million in unspent COVID funds to restore the funding the Democrats cut. But the proposal needs to be approved by the Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee, which is still controlled by the Democrats, in the next 15 days.
* Saving these kids and allowing them to continue attending the private school of their choice should be a no-brainer, even for Democrats. But some on the left truly have no brain. Which brings us to Annette “Chicken Lady” Magnus.
* The liberal screech machine from the far-left looney bin of Battle Born Progress opposes Lombardo’s proposal to help these low-income, mostly minority, students. She says federal money shouldn’t be used on “a program for religious, private school kids who can afford it.”
* Like I said, this doofus has no brain.
* If she had any idea whatsoever what she was talking about, she’d know the scholarships are only available to low-income families who absolutely otherwise wouldn’t be able to “afford it.” The average family income for Opportunity Scholarship recipients is $60,000.
* She’s a liar, plain and simple. Which brings us to…
* Kamala “The Cackler” Harris is lying about Florida’s education curriculum as it relates to what’s being taught about slavery. Not stretch the truth. Outright lie. Demonstrably. And was caught at it.
* But that hasn’t stopped Nevada Democrat Rep. Steven “Black Panther” Horsford – head of the Congressional Black Caucus – from chiming in and repeating Kamala’s lies. Same ol’ story: Tell a lie often enough and some people will believe it.
* Horsford has also called on Biden’s weaponized Department of Justice to investigate the Florida Department of Education to see if it’s violating some federal law. Gee, I wonder how THAT’S gonna turn out?
* Sidenote: Word on the street is that an experienced, high-profile Republican is seriously mulling jumping into the 4th congressional district race next year to challenge Horsford. Make it so, #1.
* Without knowing the details, many of us immediately assumed that Kamala was lying because, well, that’s what the left does. But to understand exactly what the lie is, we can grasp the issue from the following by race-hustling Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson…
“Florida’s decision to teach in schools that slavery in this country was of ‘personal benefit’ to some enslaved people is obscene revisionism. For those who doubt this obscenity is actually in the curriculum, look no further than Page 6 of Florida’s 2023 academic standards for teaching social studies: ‘Instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.’”
* By his own admission, the standards do NOT say slavery was a “personal benefit” to slaves. The standards clearly state that the SKILLS developed by *some* slaves and former slaves – not all, some – ended up being a personal benefit.
* Big difference. True. And accurate.
* Some slaves and former slaves did, in fact, learn and develop certain SKILLS, such as blacksmithing, that ended up serving them to their benefit. Not being a slave, but learning certain skills.
* What’s sad is that certain Republicans have bought into the left’s distortions and lies about the curriculum and are giving lefties such as Kamala and Robinson aid-and-comfort. The Soviets used to call such people “useful idiots.”
* Sounds about right.
* NBC News reported on Thursday that Republican Jeff Gunter, a former ambassador to Iceland under Donald Trump, is preparing to announce his candidacy for Nevada’s U.S. Senate seat that’s up for grabs next year.
* He’s got some personal wealth but very sketchy ties to Nevada. From my understanding, while he officially owns a home in Nevada, he really still lives in California. For some of us old-timers in Nevada GOP politics, we call it the “Aaron Russo Effect.”
* It’s too expensive for a Republican to run statewide in deep-red Cali, so some move to Nevada solely for the purpose of running for office in our comparatively tiny and far less expensive purple state.
* But Nevada Republicans won’t buy it. Well, most Nevada Republicans.
* In response to the NBC report on Gunter’s anticipated candidacy, Nevada Republican National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah tweeted: “Game Set Match #NVSen.”
* So the Mouth That Bored has declared the race over in favor of the trans-Californian before it’s even started – and in opposition to Sam Brown, the candidate the National Republican Senatorial Committee is backing. Lovely.
* Yes, Brown also moved here from another state – as have some 74% of current Nevadans. But that was years ago and not for the sole purpose of running for office. Brown has established roots and a following here.
* No one’s ever heard of Gunter. Yet according to Chattah, we’re supposed to embrace him as our political “savior”? I don’t think so.
* So, Zaon Collins was driving 90-mph in a 35-mph zone. He crashed into 52-year-old Eric Echevarria, a National Guard veteran who worked as a custodian at a Las Vegas elementary school and had a son, four stepchildren and six grandchildren.
* On Thursday the black former college basketball player got a mere three months in jail, 100 hours of community service and a piddling $3,500 fine for killing a person. Black privilege. Two-tiered justice.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“(Trump’s) got some unfinished business that we need to finish as a country. He’s proven that he’s a strong leader.” – Conservative Republican Assemblyman Ken Gray, who’s backing Trump
“I feel like (Trump) requires this blind allegiance, and there’s no room for saying, ‘I agree with you 80 or 90 percent of the time.’ He requires 100 percent of the time, and I don’t think that’s the spirit of the Republican Party.” - Conservative Republican Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant, who’s backing DeSantis
“I don’t see a big rush right now to endorse anybody. I really want to look and examine the candidates and what they’re proposing.” – Moderate Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill, who isn’t backing any presidential candidate yet
