Muth's Truths PLUS+

01/26/2024

* I just came across this old, grammatically-challenged tweet by Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald that was posted on June 1, 2015…

“primaries increase participation.l favor the primary”

* So he was for a primary…before he was against it. Or more to the point, he was for a primary before Trump told him to be against it.

* On the other hand, I favored going with a presidential caucus…before the law was changed to a primary in 2021. Now, we have no choice but to play the cards that were dealt us.

* The February 6 primary will be held as established by law. Don’t like? Change the law. But to change the law, you have to change the lawmakers.

* We started that process in 2022 when Nevadans elected Republican Joe Lombardo as governor - ousting the former Democrat governor who signed the bipartisan bill to switch Nevada from a caucus state to a primary state.

* Now it’s time to focus on the Legislature.

* The only real hope of Republicans staying out of the super-minority in the State Senate next year is if Republicans can flip the Democrat seat currently held by “woke,” cop-hating Dallas Harris.

* Fortunately, Team Lombardo recruited an A-List candidate for this seat in Lori Rogich, who held a very successful campaign kick-off event at the Ahern Freedom Hotel in Las Vegas last Monday night.

* But the real opportunity for real change is in the Assembly.

* However, the Assembly Republican Caucus (ARC) has yet to officially endorse any candidates – including the ones the governor has already endorsed – even though members have been personally endorsing candidates as individuals.

* In David Brog’s case (AD37), all 14 members have endorsed him individually. Yet the caucus hasn’t officially endorsed him as a group. Makes no sense.

* From what I’ve heard, the vast majority of caucus members support making official, early, pre-primary endorsements – especially those candidates who have been recruited, vetted, trained, and endorsed by Gov. Lombardo – but they just can’t agree on the exact language for the endorsement process. Dotted “i’s” and crossed “t’s” and all.

* Let me again make it easy: Just go back to doing what you did before. If a candidate gets a 2/3 majority of votes from caucus members, the candidate gets the official ARC endorsement – which will help open some fundraising doors for these folks.

* There are a lot of us who have been spending a lot of time and money to get Assembly Republicans out of their super-minority. The least ARC members could do is meet us halfway and get with the program.

* So, please, please, PLEASE, folks - stop screwing around and, as Gov. Lombardo so eloquently put it, get this sh*t done.

* In my buddy Jon Ralston’s “Flasher” e-newsletter a couple days ago, the liberal blubber-blogger accused me of referring to Ryan Hampton, Democrat candidate for Assembly District 4, as “Assemblyman Crackhead.”

* There’s only one problem with that: It’s a lie. I never wrote any such thing.

* As noted here in Muth’s Truths PLUS+ back before Christmas, Hampton IS – by his own admission – a recovering heroin addict. And God bless him for it. Hope he stays clean and helps others in his former situation beat their addiction, too.

* But my point was that he admitted to being a former, 10-year heroin addict - before becoming a candidate. Now he’s covering that up and only telling people he was addicted to “pain killers” after a hiking accident.

* The issue isn’t that he’s a recovering heroin addict. The issue is that he’s now misrepresenting his history to voters. It’s a lie of omission. And if he’ll mislead voters about that, what else will he mislead voters about?

* Lastly, I’ve been training and meeting with various candidates one-on-one for the past few weeks. And let me tell you, we have a bumper crop of solid Republicans running to protect the governor’s veto.

* I’ll have a full race-by-race report for you coming out soon. Stay tuned, Batfans…
