Muth's Truths PLUS+

08/15/2023

* Heard it through the grapevine: Republican Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama (Clark) is considering a run for Nevada’s 3rd congressional district to unseat Democrat incumbent Rep. Susie Lee.

* Been hearing these rumors for weeks, but it appears to be a serious possibility now.

* Kasama isn’t the most conservative Republican in the Legislature, but she may well be the most conservative candidate who can beat Lee in this Democrat-majority district. And she brings something else to the table: fundraising.

* In her first race for Assembly in 2020, Heidi reportedly raised an impressive $276,000. In her re-election campaign last year, she raised another $236,000 – despite the GOP being in the SUPER-minority in the Legislature.

* To put that in perspective, Assembly Minority Leader P.K. O’Neill raised less than $97,000 last cycle.

* There are two other Republicans announced in this race already: Elizabeth Halseth and Drew Johnson.

* Halseth’s checkered past makes her all but unelectable. And Johnson has reportedly only raised about $20,000 for his campaign so far this year.

* Of the three, Kasama would clearly be the strongest candidate. She’s won twice in a “purple” district (by 10 points last year), can obviously raise money, signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, and has a voting record in office that won’t scare the skivvies off independent voters.

* As I’ve written before, Johnson shouldn’t be running for Congress. He should be running against Democrat Assembly Speaker Steve “Donut Boy” Yeager. And Halseth shouldn’t be running for ANYTHING.

* Run Heidi, run!

* Here’s a follow-up on this morning’s Muth’s Truths column about the fouled-up Nevada GOP presidential elections next February.

* Quick recap: The state, per law, will be holding a GOP primary on Tuesday, February 6. The Nevada Republican Party will be holding a competing “caucus” on Thursday, February 8 where actual delegates to the National Convention will be selected.

* Nightmare.

* What if “Candidate A” wins the primary but “Candidate B” wins the caucus, and the convention delegates go to Candidate B instead of the winner of the primary? How well will Republican voters take THAT?

* Another unanswered question: If a Nevada Republican voter votes in the primary, will they also be allowed to vote two days later in the caucus?

* And what if a Democrat votes in the February 6 Democrat primary, then switches parties. Will they be allowed to vote in the GOP caucus?

* Nobody seems to know. Including Central Committee members. Or at least they’re not saying.

* In addition, I’m told the party is trying to shakedown the presidential campaigns by charging them anywhere from $20,000 to $55,000 to have their candidate’s name appear on caucus ballots – probably because they can’t afford to hold the caucus otherwise.

* If I were the other campaigns, I think I might just tell the party to take its caucus and shove it. Why ante up against a stacked deck?

* Back in April, some “Karen” complained to the DMV about a man’s license plate - “GOBK2CA,” which is shorthand for “Go Back to California” – even though he’s had it since 2004. The woman, likely FROM California, claimed it was defamatory.

* Fortunately, a judge has now ruled that as long as the man continues to renew his registration, he’ll be allowed to keep GOBK2CA plates. Good. And if you don’t like it, go back to California.

* And speaking of the Land of Fruits & Nuts…

* Driverless taxicabs are gaining popularity in San Francisco. And no wonder! FOX News is reporting that passengers are having sex in the back seat while Hal 9000 is driving them around.

* There’s a lot more than hearts being left in San Francisco.

* Southwest Airlines used to be my favorite airline. Never even shopped other airlines to see if I could get a better fare or flight time. But it’s gone WAY downhill over the past few years.

* An infuriating experience with one of their “mask Nazis” on a flight from Houston back to Vegas after taking my son to an Astros playoff game in 2021 left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth (between eating peanuts so I could take the face diaper off).

* And I recently learned from a conservative Southwest employee that it’s also gone “woke” by “promoting racial and LGBTQ diversity.”

* In fact, someone has built an entire parody website ridiculing the budget airline. It’s pretty darned funny – including a Saturday Night Live clip.

* In describing the airline’s in-flight entertainment, the parody website writes…

“We don’t believe in personal entertainment systems, as we feel it takes away from the joy of staring at the back of the seat in front of you for hours on end. Instead, we offer a variety of in-flight literature, including ‘Heather’s Mom Has Two Penises,’ and ‘The Communist Manifesto.’ You’re welcome.”
