Muth's Truths PLUS+

09/12/2023

* Here are three undeniable truths: (1) The Pope is Catholic. (2) Bears poop in the woods. (3) The Nevada GOP is in the bag for Donald Trump.

* And many Nevada Republicans are none too happy about it.

* One longtime Nevada Republican, who asked that they not be identified, writes that she’s one of the ones who will not be able to vote in the Nevada GOP’s proposed presidential caucus at 5:00 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2023.

* “Having been a Republican since I could vote, I don’t remember not voting in the past 55 years,” she writes: “But my husband has been very ill for the past year and my time is totally taken with caring for him.”

* Another writes that she became actively involved with the GOP three years ago but has withdrawn her involvement over this caucus vs. primary brouhaha. “What I’m observing from the sidelines, stinks,” she writes. “It stinks to high heaven, and I am sick of it.”

* Yet another writes: “I know for dead, solid certain that people hate and mistrust the caucus process. All people - Dems, Republicans, Buddhists, Nudists, Hypochondriacs, Circus performers - everyone except Bernie Bros and GOP operatives.”

* You can’t fix stupid.

* A Super-PAC supporting Sam Brown’s bid for U.S. Senate in Nevada next year announced a $512,000 media buy starting on October 2 and running through Thanksgiving.

* Brown has been tapped by the GOP establishment as the best chance to flip the seat red, and the advantages of being the “chosen one” are obvious. Brown came out of the gate strong and appears to be picking up steam.

* The PAC’s pollster shows Brown with a 2-1 lead (33%-15%) over his nearest competitor, Jim Marchant. Tony Grady got 2% and Jeff Gunter got 1%.

* You may or may not think Brown is the best candidate in the race, but he’s certainly running the best campaign at this point. And it’s the best campaign that wins.

* If only I wasn’t so annoyed by his annoying fundraising emails that continue to be about him rather than about the voters. If he adjusts his messaging, this could be a “done deal” in the GOP primary.

* Republicans in Congress have a razor-thin majority of just five seats. And too many people are *assuming* that majority is safe and will be increased next year. Just like all the predictions last year of a “red wave.”

* Don’t believe it.

* The GOP majority hangs by a thread. And may be in serious jeopardy thanks to a couple of recent court decisions that increase “the likelihood Democrats could chip away the five-seat GOP House majority through redistricting alone.”

* That makes winning one or more of Nevada’s three Democrat-held congressional seats all the more important. And why now is NOT the time for philosophical purity tests in those races.

* Majorities get to lead. And you get the majority through addition, not subtraction.

* Which is why moderate Republican Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama – who won her “swing” Assembly seat twice now – is the smarter choice for the GOP in the 3rd congressional district over the far more conservative newcomer, Drew Johnson, who has never won a race.

* Drew hates that I keep writing this, but the fact is he should be running for the Legislature, not Congress.

* Geologists have discovered what’s believed to be the “world’s biggest lithium reservoir” in northern Nevada, estimated to be worth some $1.5 trillion. But Indian tribes object to mining this “white gold,” claiming it’s located on sacred ground. Read more here.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“I say privately-owned should mean…private. A store owner should be allowed to make his own choices. If customers don’t like a policy, there are other businesses to patronize. We individuals should get to decide what’s best for us.” – Columnist John Stossel
