Muth's Truths PLUS+

07/21/2023

* Sen. Chuck Grassley has released previously secret documents detailing the Hunter Biden money scandal related to Ukraine.

* The mainstream media is having a cow and have their talking point in order. In lockstep, they’re now referring to the accusations as “unverified claims.”

* “Hunter deniers”?

* Funny, but I don’t remember them referring to the “Russia hoax” as “unverified claims.” It’s almost as if there’s a two-tiered justice system in this country these days.

* Quick shout-out to the Summerlin conservatives who invited me to speak last night about the upcoming election cycle.

* What a great group of activists who are at “ground zero” for important races coming up – including Assembly District 37 and Clark County Commission District C. Bring home the gold, folks!

* So, how liberal is the liberal Las Vegas Sun?

* It’s so left-wing that even the far-left Clark County teachers union has blacklisted the paper, declaring in a statement that the “CCEA will not speak to the Las Vegas Sun” and has banned its reporters from attending news conferences.

* In response – and laughably – the paper says its coverage has been “thorough and balanced.” What a joke.

* The Pravda-like insert found daily inside the Las Vegas Review-Journal regularly trashes Republicans, and especially Gov. Joe Lombardo. And its reporting on the school choice issue is so biased and so filled with inaccuracies that it isn’t even funny.

* Blacklisting a news organization and/or its reporters is a big step, not to be taken lightly.

* In this case, it’s warranted. Wish more Republicans would follow suit. It’s the only way to get their attention and persuade them to change their evil ways. If they won’t play it straight, don’t play with them at all.

* A similar situation appears to exist as it relates to Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Victor Joecks. Vic regularly trashes Lombardo (did so again this morning), unfairly comparing him to other GOP governors who have the luxury of Republican-controlled legislatures.

* Doesn’t seem as though the governor’s office gives Vic the time of day. Rightly earned.

* Speaking of the RJ, its editorial this morning laments all the “hidden” fees various utilities tack onto bills, driving cost through the roof. This is especially true of new “excessive use” fines being leveled against water customers by unelected bureaucrats at the Las Vegas Water District.

* GOP candidates would do well to focus on this issue in the upcoming elections. It’s an issue that will particularly resonate with independent voters.

* Speaking of school choice, the Democrats’ decision to cut funding for Nevada’s Opportunity Scholarship program has resulted in Silver State Scholarships being unable to renew over 400 scholarships this coming school year.

* Gov. Joe Lombardo is scrambling to find other sources of revenue to help these kids attend the schools of their choice, but these families are in limbo right now with just weeks to go before the next school year starts.

* Worse, the scholarship program mostly benefits low-income, minority students. The average income for the families getting screwed is less than $60,000 per year.

* In the immortal words of that great philosopher, Eric Cartman of Southpark, “Democrats p*ss me off!”

* Now, this is weird. Apparently, the current executive board members of the Clark County Republican Party – as per the bylaws – were given TWO votes in Tuesday’s election of new officers.

* Not that it would have made a difference in the election outcomes – I only know the vote totals in the chairman’s race – but why should ANY member get twice the number of votes as any other member?

* Since the Nevada Republican Party has opted to hold a competing presidential caucus and GOP votes in the GOP primary won’t count, it would appear Republican voters could switch their registration to Democrat, vote early or by mail for Robert F. Kennedy in the Democrat primary, then take the same-day registration option to immediately switch back and vote for their Republican presidential choice at the caucus.

* Is this any way to run an election?

* The RJ reports this morning that Republican U.S. Senate candidate Stephanie Phillips has $2.2 million cash-on-hand. Must be a typo. I checked the FEC report, and the actual figure is $2,249.

* By comparison, Democrat incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen reports having a whopping $7.5 million cash-on-hand.

* I wish Stephanie would instead run for a local or state legislative seat.

* Final note: Next Thursday’s “So You Want to Be a Candidate?” workshop is sold out. But don’t worry if you weren’t able to get in. I’ll be doing it again in the near future – as well as in cities/towns in rural Nevada, probably after Labor Day.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

"Hundreds of children from low-income families across our state have been deprived of educational opportunities because of the partisan actions of these feckless politicians. Governor Lombardo tried to expand funding for opportunity scholarships, but instead of helping these students, Democrats in the legislature funded new offices and new staff for themselves.” – John Burke, Better Nevada PAC
