Muth's Truths PLUS+

07/14/2023

* The Clark County teachers union is blocking 46 schools from adjusting their schedules to increase the amount of instruction time students receive.

* In reviewing the list of schools getting screwed, my friend and political polar-opposite, Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, asked on Twitter: “Why are they all in east Las Vegas?”

* For the record, east Las Vegas has a HUGE population of low-income, minority families, especially Hispanics. So the teachers union is screwing the kids who most need the additional instruction time.

* Teachers unions should be outlawed.

* One of the (lame) arguments Nevada Democrats burped up in advocating for universal, automatic mail-in balloting in 2020 was that it would make voting so easy that turnout would soar.

* Oops.

* A new study of the 2022 mid-term elections in Nevada by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission found that overall turnout last year DECLINED from the turnout in 2018, which was before Democrats forced mail-in balloting on the state.

* This in light of “the portion of ballots cast by mail rising from about 9 percent in 2018 to nearly 51 percent in 2022.”

* And as reporter Sean Golonka notes, “the rate of (Nevada) voters who cast their ballot by mail lagged behind other universal vote-by-mail states.” The grim stats…

“Nevada’s mail turnout percentage (50.7 percent of ballots cast in the general election) was a distant eighth place, behind Vermont (67.6 percent) and California (87.4 percent). The other five states recorded mail turnout percentages above 90 percent.”

* In addition…

“Nevada also reported a nation-low 28.2 percent rate of returned mail ballots, meaning that out of nearly 1.9 million ballots mailed to Nevada voters, fewer than 530,000 were used.”

* Your tax dollars at work.

* AFP Action has a second mailer out in Nevada slamming Trump, but also making some valid points about electability.

* It’s legitimate to ask what Trump has done since losing the 2020 election to broaden his appeal and, as he said in a recent interview with the Nevada Globe, get so many additional votes that it will overcome the level of cheating he believes will take place.

* He’s got his base – and if he wins the nomination, that will include me – but it’s hard to see how he’s winning over independent voters who didn’t vote for him last time.

* You win elections by addition, not subtraction. And he continues to bleed indies. What’s the plan to expand the independent vote? I haven’t seen it yet.

* Meanwhile…

* The marriage of the Nevada GOP and Donald Trump was consummated this morning as former Nevada GOP executive director Alida Benson, recently hired to run the Trump campaign here, sent out an email linking to a survey asking which presidential candidate they’re supporting.

* Those completing the survey “will also get a chance to sign up and join our team of volunteers to make a real impact in your community! Whether you want to make phone calls, knock on doors, or help at events, we have a role for you!”

* Benson concluded: “With your loyalty and support, we will spread our message of national greatness and glory for America!”

* So…THAT’S the plan? I’m…underwhelmed.

* It seems I’ve gotten under the skin of Nevada GOP National Committeewoman and “shadow” chair Sigal Chattah. She scrawled out this tweet yesterday (tortured grammar in the original)…

“@ChuckMuth is once again, pitching for the wrong team. Let’s send him where he belongs, @EmergeNevada would love to have him, since he already feeds #NVDems intel on Nevada’s GOP and our candidates. Can’t turn trash to treasure-never ever.”

* Um, I’m not the one regularly attacking Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo and other Republican elected officials while holding one of the party’s top three leadership positions.

* Physician, heal thyself.
