* Nevada Judge James Russell ruled on Monday rejected the teachers’ union’s ballot referendum to kill the A’s baseball stadium, saying it was “confusingly written and incomplete.”
* I’m shocked – shocked, I say! – that the union representing Nevada’s TEACHERS are bad at writing.
* That New York Times poll last weekend is still reverberating across the fruited plains. It showed that Donald Trump was leading Joe Biden in 5 out of 6 swing states, including Nevada.
* The poll shows both Trump and Ron DeSantis ahead of Biden in Nevada, though Trump’s lead is bigger. Nikki Haley trails Biden, 44-38 percent.
* If the results are accurate, the really significant number is Biden’s 62% disapproval number for how he’s handling the job. Even if people like Biden, they’re still apt to vote against him just because he stinks on ice when it comes to running the country.
* A lot of people didn’t like Trump in 2016. But they disliked Hillary Clinton even more. And Democrats are slowing coming to accept that Biden may be the only candidate who could lose to Trump next November if Trump is the nominee.
* As Stephen Moore of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity wrote this morning…
“Democratic pundits, panicked by New York Times polls that show Joe Biden losing almost every swing state to Donald Trump, are desperately clutching at straws to explain how his failed presidency can rebound.”
* The same NYT poll shows that 65% of Nevadans think abortion should be legal - though the number changes significantly if voters are asked if abortion is OK beyond the first trimester
(12 weeks).
* And on a ballot question in Ohio on Tuesday, voters overwhelmingly cemented abortion rights into their state constitution, 57-43%. A similar measure will almost assuredly be on the Nevada ballot next year.
* Danger, Will Robinson!
* In Virginia, Republican Gov. Youngkin attempted to “split the baby,” so to speak, by campaigning for a “sensible middle ground” 15-week limit in the state’s legislative races. The GOP lost control of both the Senate and the Assembly.
* In red-state Kentucky, the Democrat incumbent governor won re-election against the Trump-endorsed Republican who openly campaigned on that endorsement.
* A new Zogby poll shows overwhelming support for school choice. 73% of Hispanics, 69% of blacks, 58% of whites, and 61% of Asians support Education Savings Accounts that provide funding for students to use at private schools.
* In Texas on Tuesday, Heath Hyde – campaigning as the only candidate in the House District 2 special election opposed to school choice – lost with just 21% of the vote.
* Republicans running for legislative seats in Nevada – where Democrats have all but killed Opportunity Scholarships – should take note. This is an issue that resonates with non-partisans, and especially with low-income minority families.
* Here’s the part of the Nevada GOP’s “chaos caucus” that defenders keep missing – or intentionally hide. They could have gone along with the state-run primary AND held a separate party-run caucus in which convention delegates would be awarded.
* But they screwed up royally by forcing the presidential candidates to pick one or the other - which will result in neither Donald Trump’s nor Ron DeSantis’ names from appearing on the
primary ballot since they filed for the caucus.
* In the end, it will be reported that either Nikki Haley or Tim Scott “won” Nevada in the February 6 primary and either Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis will “win” Nevada in the caucus
two days later.
* Nah, no chance for confusion there. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve seen the Nevada GOP do in over 30 years.
* The main argument for holding a caucus rather than a state-run primary by Nevada GOP folks is that it will be more secure – photo ID, paper ballots, no same-day registration, etc.
* Yeah, keep beating the “stolen election” drum and encourage Republicans to stay home because “their vote doesn’t count.” Brilliant strategery there.
* And, um, if the state-run presidential primary can’t be trusted, then why is the party is still going along with using a state-run primary to select its NON-presidential nominees
next June rather than go with a caucus/nominating convention like the Libertarian Party and the Independent American Party?
* Hypocrites.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“Democrats have done welldespite President Biden’s low approval ratings for several reasons. One, Donald Trump and the so-called MAGA movement are also unpopular, and candidates
aligned with him have fared poorly. Two, the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe - and subsequent Republican-passed abortion bans - have upset many voters. … Ohio’s referendum on abortion won outright in 18 counties Trump won in 2020.” – The Morning, 11/8/23
“With Donald Trump if youdon’t kiss the ring, you could be the best governor ever and he’ll trash you. You could be a terrible, corrupt politician, but if you kiss his ring, then all of a sudden, he’ll praise you.” – Ron DeSantis on Trump’s attacks on IowaGov. Kim Reynolds
