* Big Campaign ‘24 news for Nevada Republicans…

* Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama has decided NOT to run for Congress in District 3 and will instead run for re-election in Assembly District 2 to help protect Gov. Lombardo’s vetoes. Here’s her statement…

“Congress is broken. The partisan divide in Washington is growing and it is imperative that our representatives begin working together to solve problems and listen to their constituents. That is not happening enough in Washington, and I was eager to become part of the solution.

“Having said that, I could not imagine myself in Washington, DC trying to fix Congress if Governor Lombardo faced veto-proof majorities in both chambers at home in Nevada. Any such victory would be a hollow one.

“So, after much thought, discussion with my family, and a candid conversation with Governor Lombardo, it became crystal clear to me over the holidays that I can best serve my state, this Governor, and my constituents by returning to the State Capitol, rather than serving in our nation’s capital.”

* This is why Yogi Berra said it ain’t over ‘til it’s over. Anything can happen between now and filing for office in March.

* Lombardo has already endorsed Kasama’s re-election bid - a gut-punch to Clark County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Law who announced he was running for her seat just a couple weeks ago.

* Unless someone else jumps into the CD3 race, the leading GOP candidate – and likely nominee – will be Drew Johnson, who will have a tougher time flipping the seat than Kasama.

* And speaking of the State Assembly…

* While Gov. Lombardo has already endorsed candidates in districts deemed most vulnerable for Democrat incumbents, Assembly District 35 (Clark County) remains unsettled.

* AD35 is considered a top pick-up opportunity for the GOP, as the scandal-plagued Democrat incumbent, Michelle Gorelow, has announced she’s not running for re-election.

* Rebecca Edgeworth (website) is thought to have the inside track to getting the governor’s nod, but others have lined up behind Brittany Walker Hausle (website).

* In other campaign news, longtime GOP political activist Ryan Hamilton officially announced today that he’s running for the Clark County Commission seat currently held by Democrat Michael Naft.

* In announcing his candidacy, Ryan wrote…

“Unanimous, single-party control the Democrats have wielded over our County Commission for the last twenty years has not served our community. Violent crime, homelessness, severe drug addiction and housing prices have spiked. Our middle-class residents can’t afford to pay their bills. … I am running so that all people who call this valley home have equal access to clean streets, safe neighborhoods and top-tier economic opportunities.”

* In other news, Republican State Sen. Robin Titus and the National Taxpayers Union have filed a lawsuit “challenging the constitutionality of SB420, a law passed unilaterally by the Democratic majority which established a public health care option to be implemented in Nevada by 2026.”

* According to a report by Megan Barth of the Nevada Globe…

“The lawsuit alleges that the law violates the Nevada Constitution in three ways: the law was not passed by the necessary two-thirds majority vote of legislators which is required to pass any bill that generates public revenue; the law gives the State Treasurer and the DHHS unlimited discretion to use an unknown amount of state funds for unspecified purposes that state lawmakers did not approve; and, violates the separation of powers principle.”

* And in conclusion…

* The Nevada Democrat Party is gunning for Gov. Joe Lombardo. It issued a manifesto on Tuesday detailing all the things “Don Veto” did last year that resulted in liberal tears streaming down their collective two faces. Click here.

* Wait, wait. Just saw this before publication and it’s too good not to include.

* Mark Cuban, the insufferable owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, tweeted out his support for DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion), arguing that “good businesses look where others don’t.”

* To which Elon Musk – of Twitter and Tesla fame – replied: “Cool, so when can we expect to see a short white/Asian woman on the Mavs?”

* Game. Set. Match.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Our national debt has now surpassed a staggering $34 trillion. In Florida, we run budget surpluses and have paid off 25% of our state debt since I took office.” – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis
