* I certainly have my problems with the incompetence and horrible judgment of leaders of the Nevada Republican Party – especially over the disaster of their “Chaos Caucus” – but this whole “fake electors” indictment of six of them is a major league nothing-burger.
* They drew up a fake certificate and mailed it in. No one accepted it as real. It didn’t even look like the real thing. It was ham-handed and dumb, but nothing to make a federal case out of.
* Democrat Attorney General A.Ron Ford’s prosecution is nothing more than a partisan effort to criminalize politics.
* The court should dismiss the indictments and the GOP Central Committee should elect new leaders. Enough of this clown show.
* The embarrassment of the Nevada GOP’s “Chaos Caucus” is likely to only get worse.
* What if Nikki Haley wins the primary and gets more votes than Donald Trump at the separate party-run caucus? Or what if Haley loses to “None of the Above”?
* Don’t laugh. The Washington Examiner reported yesterday…
“New polling released by Providence, a collaborative effort between Revere Solutions and DecipherAi, showed 59.2% of Nevada Republican primary voters saying they would select ‘none of these candidates’ during the Feb. 6 GOP primary election, compared to 40.8% who would choose Haley.”
* Also, what if turnout is historically low – demonstrating that the Nevada GOP still hasn’t fixed its get-out-the-vote problem that cost Republicans a U.S. Senate seat in 2022?
* Nevada GOP boss Michael McDonald was quoted this week as saying of Haley…
“A woman who claims to be fiscally conservative just wasted $5 million in Nevada taxpayers money, for a nothing result that gives her a plastic tiara and a participation trophy.”
* This after telling attendees at a rally last Saturday in Las Vegas: “We will deliver you 100% of delegates of the state of Nevada to Donald J. Trump,”
* Nah, Nevada isn’t “rigged” for Trump, is it?
* First, Haley had nothing to do with establishing the primary. That was done by the Nevada Legislature.
* Secondly, the primary would have been held even if Haley hadn’t filed to run in it. The law says a primary election will be held if two or more candidates file for it. Seven candidates, including Haley, filed.
* And there was nothing in law to prevent all the candidates from filing to run in both the primary and the caucus. It was the Nevada GOP who told candidates they couldn’t. This PR disaster is a self-inflicted wound.
* The Washoe County GOP has voted to oust Republican Washoe County Commissioner Clara Andriola, alleging that she “intentionally and willfully failed to uphold the Republicans and the Republican brand in her official capacity.”
* The censure vote was overwhelming.
* Andriola’s response: “I have a long history of being a Republican. I have a long history of doing what I can to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used the best they can, that we have limited government and are as efficient as possible.”
* Washoe GOP Chairman Bruce Parks’ response: “I have been completely,100 percent ignored by the governor’s office. Any opportunity to fix this has long since expired.”
* Andriola was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board by Gov. Lombardo last April. She’s been under fire ever since and is facing a GOP primary in June from a member of the Washoe GOP Central Committee.
* Parks continued…
“It is high time the Governor learned the lesson that the Governor works for the people of Washoe County, not the other way around. The governor needs to support us, but he appointed her with no input, that I am aware of, from anyone from the Washoe County Central Committee, our officers, any Republicans in Washoe County, or any of the Republican commissioners serving now alongside her. He sure as hell didn’t call me.
“But that is okay, the governor isn’t obligated to do so, but he now has to live with these consequences of appointing a RINO (Republican In Name Only) to the Washoe County Commission. He ignored us, he ignored the people, he ignored the issues, and now here we are with a Commissioner who votes 87 percent of the time with the Democrats.”
* It’s bad enough that Democrats have the long knives out for Gov. Lombardo and are doing everything possible to make him a lame duck governor by obtaining a veto-proof majority in both the state Senate and Assembly next November.
* But to be constantly taking friendly fire from GOP party officials – especially from Nevada Republican National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah - seems counter-productive. Somebody needs to fix this. We have plenty of other fish to fry.
* Join me in Mesquite on Wednesday, February 14 at 5:30 pm for a fun evening of “Love & Politics,” hosted by the Mesquite Republican Women. I guarantee it won’t be your usual boring political speech. We’ve got a really FUN and different program planned. Perfect “date night.” Free admission. For more information, email MesquiteRW@yahoo.com.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“Last fall, leaders of the group meeting at the Ahern, the Nevada Republican Club — a separate entity from the Nevada Republican Party — urged party officials not to hold a caucus competing with the state-run primary… The effect, they wrote, would be to ‘frustrate, anger and confuse Nevada’s Republican voters,’ giving “average voters the impression they don’t care about them or their votes.’ Looking back, it seems they were right.” – David Siders, Politico, 1/30/24
“Nevada Republicans thought they had a brilliant plan to prevent any of former President Donald Trump's rivals from challenging him for the delegates in their state — but instead, reported Politico on Tuesday, their plan has blown up in their face, as they are holding multiple contests with different candidates in each, voters are confused about which will even count, and nationally Republicans have written off the whole state as ‘irrelevant.’” – RawStory.com, 1/31/24
