Muth's Truths Plus

* After posting the Clark County and statewide turnout numbers for the 2022 general election in Nevada, a number of people have written asking about Washoe County – the purpliest of purple counties.

* So here you go…

* A total of 75,831 Republicans voted out of 100,949 active registered Republicans.

* That means 25,118 registered Washoe Republicans did not vote in an election that GOP U.S. Senate candidate Adam Laxalt lost by fewer than 8,000 votes.

* But it’s even worse for Laxalt than the Republican voters who didn’t vote. Many of those who did apparently didn’t vote for the GOP nominee.

* Laxalt got a total of 90,002 votes to Democrat Cortez Masto’s 98,617 for a difference of 8,615.

* Even if you gave all of the votes for “None of the Above” and the three third-party candidates in the race, Laxalt still would have lost to Cortez Masto by 2,954 votes…

* In his HOME COUNTY.

* And to put this in even more perspective, fellow Republican Rep. Mark Amodei pulled in 100,244 votes in the same county – 10,242 votes more than Laxalt.

* So it wasn’t just turnout that killed Laxalt’s chance at the brass ring. Fact is, people in Washoe County just didn’t like him…for whatever reasons.

* My personal opinion remains that Sam Brown would have been a much better general election candidate than Laxalt. GOP primary voters need to keep this lesson in mind for 2024.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“300,000 California residents left the state in 2022, according to the US Census Bureau.
This departure is more than any other state during that time period, per
estimates tracked from July 2021 to July 2022. Those fleeing California
included Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom's own in-laws. This was the third
consecutive annual decline for the Golden State, even with births outnumbering
deaths.” – Ari Hoffman, Pajama Media
