Muth's Truths Plus

01/18/2023

* Nevada Rep. Mark Amodei is now a “Cardinal.” He’s been appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee on the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations.

* Since becoming a state, only two Nevadans have been House subcommittee chairs: Rep. James G. Scrugham, almost 100 years ago, and Rep. Barbara Vucanovich in the 1990s. So this is, as Joe Biden would say, “A big f-ing deal.”

* A couple weeks ago it was announced that the Community Schools Initiative PAC - a group gathering signatures to put an initiative on the ballot that would break up the Clark County school district - failed to submit a sufficient number of signatures.

* The group needed 141,000 signatures to qualify the measure and the signature-gathering firm hired for the project, Vanguard Field Strategies, submitted 220,000.

* However, upon verifying the signatures it was discovered that many submitted names included “repeated or forged signatures, signatures from out of state and signatures with correct first and last names but with ‘obscenities as the middle name.’”

* Vanguard’s VP in Nevada, Scott Scheid– who also ran unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate John Lee’s race last year – reportedly told the group he would “make it right” and issue a refund, but later reneged on the promise. As such, the PAC is suing them for $2.2 million.

* I wonder what Mr. Scheid’s middle name is?

* New word on the street is that Mark Robertson has decided NOT to run for CD1 against Dina Titus again. Instead, Fleming Larsen is said to be planning to run for that seat.

* The Larsen candidacy is interesting. In his Assembly race last year – in an overwhelmingly Democrat district – he came within 384 votes of a major upset. There might be something there for Republicans to latch onto.

* Following up on the 2024 Nevada Supreme Court races, our friend Pauline Lee advises that the two incumbents who will be up are Elissa Cadish and Patricia Lee.

* Cadish is a darling of the left and will be tough to beat in a re-election campaign.

* Lee, however, was only recently appointed to the bench by Sisolak. Hers is the seat the GOP should be gunning for. Now all they need is a viable, credible candidate.

* ICYMI: Peter Guzman, president of the Latin Chamber of Commerce in Nevada, has been appointed as a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Peter is a good egg who’s done wonders with the Latin Chamber. Congrats!

* In closing, Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald and some of his minions are running around telling people I’m being paid to call for his ouster and bring in some new blood and new
leadership to the party. 100% bullschitt.
