* The Washoe County GOP under Chairman Bruce Parks is the pits.
* Under his stewardship, the party already kicked out Republican Washoe County Commissioner Claira Andriola back in January – who handily won her primary last week anyway and is highly likely to hold her seat in November.
* This week, the party continued its purge by censuring conservative Republican Washoe County School Board Trustee Colleen Westlake. Among the reasons: “Appearing in photographs with Democrats.”
* Westlake’s response to Mark Robison of the Reno Gazette-Journal: “For God’s sake, they’re kicking people out of the GOP because you're in a picture?”
* She added: “I was born a Republican. I will die a Republican. They cannot make me not a Republican.”
* In addition, according to Mr. Robison’s report, the Parks Politburo also refused to elect Cher Daniels as a member of the Central Committee. Her background, as reported by Mr. Robison…
“Daniels had previously been on the Washoe County Republican Party’s executive board for six years. She was president of Sparks Republican Women for six years, and she’s currently in leadership with the Nevada Federation of Republican Women.”
* Sounds like a pretty solid and ACTIVE Republican to me. Heck, the photo accompanying the article shows her sporting a personally-signed Donald Trump hat!
* Her crime?
“She held a meet-and-greet campaign event for Republican Washoe County Commissioner Clara Andriola.”
* Ugh.
* Don’t get me wrong. I fully support the party’s ability to censure and discipline elected Republicans who violate core party principles – like the dirty dozen GOP legislators who voted for the largest tax hike in Nevada history back in 2015.
* But because an elected Republican had her photo taken with a Democrat? Because an elected Republican hosted a fundraising event for a fellow elected Republican? Gime a break.
* Apparently, Chairman Parks missed the memo about majorities getting to lead and winning majorities through addition, not subtraction.
* I don’t know if he’s the worst GOP county chairman in the state, but he’s certainly in the top three.
* There’s a national effort underway to change election law so that ONLY citizens can vote in an election. The SAVE Act is working its way through Congress, and a number of states are making changes to their laws
* The “Only Citizens Vote Coalition” is sponsoring an open letter from state legislators calling on Congress to pass the SAVE Act. It reads, in part…
“If signed into law, the SAVE Act, authored by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) would update the thirty-year old National Voter Registration Act by requiring states to obtain in-person, documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering individuals to vote in federal elections.
“The SAVE Act would also require states to remove noncitizens from their voter rolls and hold election officials accountable to citizens by expanding penalties and private rights of action against those who would illegally enroll noncitizen voters.”
* To the best of my knowledge, only two Nevada state legislators have signed onto the letter: Assemblywomen Jill Dickman and Danielle Gallant (though their names don’t appear on the running list of 385 who have signed yet).
* You might want to ask your own state Assembly or Senate representative to add their names. For more information click here.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“We should be attacking, criticizing, and blaming Democrats and not Joe Biden or liberals. Even if Biden remains the Democrat presidential nominee—words like liberal, the left, progressive, woke, socialist, Marxist will not be on the ballot. Most all candidates for public office including city council, state legislature, the U.S. House, U.S. Senate, as well as the presidency will be identified as Democrat or Republican. And if we put all of our political eggs in the basket of attacking Joe Biden and he’s not on the November ballot, we’re in serious political trouble.” – Richard Viguerie
